How to check your Tyres for safe Winter driving

If you're looking for the best new and used tyres for your car then you're in the right place. At Donna's MOT & Tyre Centre we are official retailers of Kumho Tyres, Toyo Tyres and Falken Tyres, and we have over 25 years of experience with tyre fitting, wheel checks and tyre checks on your vehicle.

But once those tyres are fitted, there are things you need to look out for to ensure your tyre maintenance is up to scratch.

So we've made a list of the top 3 wheel and tyre checks to make on your vehicle this Winter.

1 - Check your tyre tread depth

There are many drivers that we meet at Donna's Garage who don't realise that the legal limit for minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters. It's not something most people think about until they are sliding around a corner, but at Donna's MOT & Tyre Centre we are experts in tyre care and maintenance, as well as being tyre retailers in March, Cambridgeshire. Just remember if you fail to comply with the legal tyre tread regulations you could face a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points for every illegal tyre that you have - ouch!

2 - Check your tyre air pressure

It takes seconds and is very straight forward to do - with many garages now taking card payments so you don't have to root around for 50p! Tyre pressure makes a real difference on how your car performs on the road, so it's a good idea to check them every 3 to 4 months.

3 - Keep your tyres clean

Sounds ridiculous - surely 2 minutes after cleaning them they'll be dirty again? Yes, covered in mud, salt and grit, potentially on a daily basis. However, these are all things that can hide your tread depth, affect your tyre grip on icy roads and also cause erosion and other damage that you don't want to be dealing with in minus temperatures! Speaking of clean wheels...

And remember, if your alloys are looking worse for wear from the winter grit, potholes etc etc you can book in for a bit of D at donna's garage.... The Wheeluv Alloy Protector service is great for... does wonders for.... Just give us a call on 01354 651790 to book your Wheeluv Alloy Protector service or your Winter tyre check.
