MOT extension is over - what next?

At the beginning of lockdown, the Department for Transport extended the expiry date of MOT certificates by 6 months, due to the initial closure of many garages. Now, with the extension cancelled as of today - August 1st 2021 - over the last few weeks we have been inundated with people panic booking MOT tests at Donna's MOT and Tyre Centre , so we thought we'd share a bit more info to help those who are wondering what to do next.

The first thing we would suggest if you are not sure when your MOT certificate runs out, is to check the status of your vehicle's MOT. You can do this on the Government website by entering your registration number.

While you're there - it's propbably a good idea to sign up to the MOT reminder service so that you don't have to worry about it in the future. You'll get an email or text message letting you know 30 days in advance of the expiration date of your car, motorcycle or van MOT certificate - then all you need to do is give us a ring at Donna's Garage to book your vehicle in!

So how does this extension thing work? In a nutshell; if your vehicle is due an MOT before 1st August, then the six month extension period still applies. However, vehicles with MOT's that expire after that date will need to be tested as normal.

"As people return to our roads, it is vital that motorists are able to keep their vehicles safe. That’s why, as restrictions are eased, from 1 August MoT testing will again become mandatory."

~ Baroness Vere - parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department for Transport ~

Don't forget - at Donna's Garage we are now licensed to carry our Class 3 MOT's. So now you can book your 3 wheeled cars and trikes in with us for an MOT. We also have an extra long ramp, so if you have a larger vehicle in need of an MOT, such as a tow truck - or even a limousine! - you can book your MOT with us with no fear.

To book your vehicle in for an MOT, just call us at Donna's MOT and Tyre Centre in March, on 01354 651790 and our team will be happy to help! In the meantime - safe driving!
